The region is home to a wide variety of businesses covering just about every business sector. Whilst some industries have tended to locate in certain areas the spread of businesses and thus skilled labour ensures that wherever in the region you chose to locate you will find suitable property and labour.

Over 90% of the regions businesses are ‘micro’ organisations employing up to 9 people meaning that they are lean and mean, and most importantly have a dedicated, skilled workforce.

South East Wales has a below average turnover rate (UK average is 15%), it’s still engraved in our culture from our industrial past that a job is for life, of course the level is dependant on your business sector. The region has strength in many business sectors, for example:

  • Food manufacturing, from national names to local suppliers, Peters Pies to Blaenavon Cheddar to Applied Nutritional Research
  • Automotive, second and third tier suppliers including a Ford engine plant, TRW braking and suspension systems and Yuasa batteries.
  • Financial and professional services, including internationally recognised names such as Admiral Insurance, ComparetheMarket.com, T Mobile, Lloyds etc.
  • Aerospace, ranging from a BA aircraft refurbishment plant and GE Aerospace engine plant to parachute and seat manufacturers.
Broadband Availability

Wi-fi in Brecon BeaconsBroadband has become increasingly important for any business; the region is well served with high speed broadband links. Much of the region offers 20mps for house hold and business connections from the majority of providers. Welsh Government has committed to increase availability in rural areas as well as developing high speed fibre optic cables across the region for business traffic with business parks targeted as priority for installation. Welsh Government has launch a digital development fund, for non-repayable seed funding to support the development of new creative products and services that can be exploited accross multiple digital platforms.
