Our Region
South East Wales is the most vibrant and compact of the Welsh regions containing the capital city, the coastal belt and the Valleys hinterland. The majority of the population of Wales live here and a large proportion of the business community is based here. But it’s not all business. From the capital it’s less than an hour's drive to the more rural setting of the Heads of the Valleys and the Brecon Beacons National Park, the Glamorgan Heritage Coast or the Wye Valley.
For a small region, we manage to fit a lot in. From a UNESCO World Heritage site in the north through the bustling M4 corridor to the coastal belt the region contains activities for all ages, for all levels ability and risk taking. The same applies to our variety of our business community; from state of the art digital media through aerospace and pharmaceuticals to general engineering and contact centres the region provides skilled labour for all business sectors.
The traditional stereotypical images of south Wales full of coal mines and slag-tips are long gone, our only deep coal mine, Big Pit, is a major tourist attraction where, with helmet and light, you can walk through the underground workings on a guided tour. Green hills now provide the backdrop to a region that has hills for walking and cycling, gentle off road to exhilarating mountain biking, valleys towns and rural villages offering a warm Welsh welcome through to our Cosmopolitan, thriving cities in Cardiff and Newport.
Get into the culture and nightlife of our cities or get away from it all on our heritage coast. South East Wales is a diverse region with some of the best living and leisure options in Wales and the UK.
