A Micro brewery has opened in Newport which aims to provide 100 jobs over the next three years.
Tiny Rebel Brewery Limited opened its doors for the first time last week after setting up home on the Maesglas Industrial Estate. It has come a long way since starting out as a hobby for brothers-in-law Gareth Williams and Bradley Cummings. Last year, Mr Williams and Mr Cummings were experimenting in a garage with no more than a few barrels and some hops. Mr Williams, 30, is trained as an electrical engineer and Mr Cummings, 24, is a mechanical engineer.
Using their expertise, they were able to set up their own company, based at the 2,800 square foot brewery, and are preparing to launch two beers – FUBAR and Urban IPA. The brews are described as retro beers with a modern twist and will be available in cask and bottles. Tiny Rebel is hoping to produce an extra six beers by the end of the year and create 100 jobs over the next three years. Its beers are already available in The Commercial Inn in Pontymister.
Mr Williams said:
“We are extremely proud to be the only micro brewery in Newport and we hope the local community are as excited as we are to be here. Cask ale has seen a resurgence over recent years with many people switching back to beer from lagers. We hope that our new mix will continue this trend and see even more people making the switch to craft beer.”
Mr Cummings added:
“Newport is our home town and we wanted to give something back to the community. The continuing regeneration of the area makes it an ideal location for us with great investment and recruitment opportunities and we hope, in years to come, that we will be a recognised employer in the area.”
