THE UK’s largest solar panel installer is creating up to 100 jobs at a call centre and sales operation in Bridgend.

The Green Home Company’s new operations hub will serve the Welsh and south-west of England markets..

It has already recruited 50 with a further 30 to be taken on over the coming weeks, before reaching 100.

Founder and executive chairman of the company Alan Proto said: “We are thrilled to have launched our new operations in Bridgend so that more people in Wales and the south-west of England can benefit from our solar installations.

“The country has an increasing level of fuel poverty, and solar panels will allow our customers to see a real reduction in their fuel bills. The fact that we continue to grow in spite of the recent uncertainty is a real success story for the industry; we have demonstrated that green jobs and green growth are a reality.”

The UK Government yesterday lost its bid to overturn a High Court ruling that its plans to cut subsidies for solar panels on homes are unlawful.

The Court of Appeal rejected Energy Secretary Chris Huhne’s claim that he had the power to go ahead with the controversial scheme. Opponents say, if allowed, the proposals would put 29,000 jobs in the solar industry at risk.

The UK Government said it was considering its options, which could see it lodging an appeal to the Supreme Court.
